🛂 REAL ID & TSA ConfirmID: What You Need to Know
If you don't yet have a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an accepted ID for flying, here's what you need to know about the new TSA ConfirmID option starting February 1, 2026.
🛂 REAL ID Basics
- REAL ID requirements have been in effect since May 2025.
- 94% of flyers now use REAL ID or accepted IDs like passports or Global Entry cards.
- The remaining 6% face enhanced screening.
💵 Introducing TSA ConfirmID
If you don't have a compliant ID, you can buy TSA ConfirmID for $45.
- Register and pay ahead online at Pay.Gov.
- ConfirmID is valid for 10 days from payment.
🛃 At the Airport
After purchase, you'll get a receipt by email—show it (printed or on your phone) along with your ID to TSA agents.
- This helps cover extra screening costs, so taxpayers aren't charged.
- Even with ConfirmID, expect potential delays, so plan extra time.
- Without advance payment, you can pay at marked spots near security but expect longer delays and possible missed flights.
⏳ Plan Ahead
The enhanced screening process at the airport can take up to 30 minutes.
To avoid headaches, get your REAL ID or prepay ConfirmID before your trip!
